I'm being intentional about beginning this year with a plan. And rather than being pessimistic about new years resolutions and how they are rarely successful, I'm going to have a little faith in myself and try. This year, I want to grow as a wife and mother and do my best to serve my family over myself. I am also reluctant but determined to kick the awful eating habits that I developed while I was pregnant and form new, healthy eating habits in their place. Another of my goals for this year is to host a grand opening for my Etsy shop, Lily and Mama, and to work to make my business thrive.
I also have a lot of faith-focused goals, because I am learning that I need to keep God at the center of everything I do. I want to set time aside every day, whether in the morning or night or during Lily's naptime, forprayer and reading the Bible. It's also another goal of mine to read the whole Bible. I have been so convicted about it lately, and it's something I know I (and every Christian) needs to do. I also want tolead a Bible study.
I also have a few smaller goals, including to spend more time journaling, toread more, to write andsend more letters and packages to friends and family, to bake every recipe in a cookbook, to sew Lily an awesome teepee and at least one dress, to plant a garden at our new home, and to host lots and lots of wonderful partiesthis year.
This year, I want to reflect on 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12,
"Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.
For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in he passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God,who gives his Holy Spirit to you. Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.
One last thing I wanted to do to prepare for this year was to choose a word that I wanted to represent this year. My word is: grow
. I want to grow in my relationship with Christ. I want to help Lily and Alex grow in their relationships with Christ. I want to grow as a wife and mother and daughter and friend, and help everyone around me to grow. I want my business to grow. I want my garden to grow. I pray for growth in all of these areas and that our lives would grow into alignment with God's will. How awesome would that be?
Happy New Year friends and welcome to 2014! I pray that this year is the best yet!
